Year 1, Sem 1

These are my first sem results ... I know that they are really bad, and I think the reason for this is obvious...

Programming Methodology (CS1101C)- A

This is the only grade I am happy about in my entire 1st sem. Turns out I do know something in CS. Exam paper was quite long and I dint really expect to get an A especially after I got 17 out of 35 in my mid-term. Its a 4 MC module and I'm happy to get a GP pf 5 in it. The module consists of basic C programming using GCC compiler and SSH client. This module should be easy for those who have already done C++ programming in their 12th grade. This module only has a few topics in C itself and is very basic. Though very basic, the lab questions were very challenging. I could hardly finish a single lab by myself without anyone's help. The PE for this module was easy though I had very less time to finish it. I wonder why they changed the PE duration from 1hr 45 mins to 45 mins... This module as a whole was fun for me... I love to program ( especially challenging ones ) and anyone who likes programming will fine this module easy.

Mathematics 1 (MA1505)- B+

This is a maths module which is almost just the continuation of 12th grade. The module starts from the 12th std portions but progresses to greater details especially in integrals. You better not cut your lectures if you ever take this module. In the beginning it will seem unnecessary to attend the lectures but as time goes you will not be able to catch up with the lecturer and it gets really difficult. Though I dint do too well in my midterm, I did make up for it by attending the lectures after the recess week. But the problem was, I did not practice from any other book except the tutorial and that I think was what led to a B+ and not an A. Multiple integrals and surface integrals are really interesting once you get to know the concepts. I enjoyed solving those problems...

Electrical Engineering (EG1108)- B

Now, there you go... you see... this is the problem with me... let me free and I stop studying and start hanging out. It shows with my decreasing grades, with more to come in the next 2 modules. From here onwards everything was a disaster for me. Though initially I liked EG very much ( I got 34 out of 40 in midterm) , I lost interest in it after the midterms. I had worked out each and every problem from Hambley till then. This module was interesting, but I dint like DC motors and Power so much. Most of the chapters were new and this module gives a basic idea of solving complex circuits and some info on current and motors. I guess the rest of my sems are going to be based on this module. Hope I can do better next sems...

Physics (PC1432)- C+

This module was one of the easiest ones. It has only 12th std portions and an introduction to quantum mechanics. Though it was easy, I dint study for this module and the grade shows it...
Most of my friends have got a B+ or B in it. Since this module is an ULR breadth module, I can SU it only if I do another physics 1000-level module(which is not going to happen). SU means we can declare the module as satisfactory/unsatisfactory so that it would not be counted towards our CAP.

Introductory Materials science and Engg( MLE1101)- C

This is the worst module in NUS according to me. This module is only for those who like atoms , Crystal structures and their defects. This modules also deals with material properties like mechanical and electrical properties. The only thing you have to do in this module is to mug up the full book without missing each and every detail. I only started studying for this module during the study hols. Though I could manage to study the full portions, I could attempt only 50% of my exam paper. Its really bad to have modules like this and I don't understand why I have to do this module in comp. engg. I'm happy to get over with this module...
